Hemlock Inn, Bryson City, NC, in the Great Smoky Mountains

Hemlock Inn is the perfect getaway for retreats, church conferences, reunions, and group gatherings. There are no outside distractions and the comfortable informality is the perfect setting to clear your mind, to develop and improve personal and professional relationships, and to plan for the future.

Hemlock Inn is located just outside Bryson City in western North Carolina near the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Located on a small mountain surrounded by 50 wooded acres, the inn has terrific mountain views, and a peaceful setting surrounded by nature. Open since 1952, the inn was built ranch style which allows guests to pull their vehicles directly to their room.

Natural Rustic Setting
The inn is rustic, but not primitive, and has 26 rooms that include three cottages. Rooms are comfortable and simple and have a private bath. There are no telephones or TVs in the rooms, no swimming pool, and there is no high speed internet connection anywhere at the inn. There is a dial up connection in the library. Rooms are cooled by the cool evening mountain air and ceiling fans.

Great Home-Cooked Meals
Genuine home-cooked country meals are a large part of the Hemlock Inn experience. The abundant meals are served family style around large lazy susan tables The inn serves breakfast every morning at 8:30am which includes eggs, grits, bacon or sausage, biscuits, muffins, and fresh fruit. Dinner is served every evening Monday-Saturday at 6:30pm. Our wide variety of dinners may include fried chicken, country ham, roast beef, chicken and dumplings, fresh vegetables, yeast rolls, and homemade deserts. Hemlock Inn is non smoking and does not serve alcohol. There is no lunch or dinner on Sunday.

Area Activities
Hemlock Inn is a great place just to sit and relax in one of the many rocking chairs enjoying the mountain views, or you can take advantage of the many activities and attractions in the area. See our Smokies Guide for things to do nearby. Here are a few ideas:

  • The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is wonderful for hiking, fishing, tubing, bird watching, or sight seeing. We can arrange fly fishing trips and guides The GSMNP is the most visited National Park in the country.
  • Explore the many waterfalls of the Smokies in Deep Creek, Cherokee, and Highlands.
  • The Nantahala Gorge is great for rafting, kayaking, or canoeing. Guided trips and group rates are available.
  • Excursions run daily on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad from Bryson City over Lake Fontana into the Nantahala Gorge. Many family adventures are also available including The Little Engine that Could, Day out with Thomas the Tank Engine, and the Polar Express. Bryson City is also home to the Model Train Museum.
  • Cherokee Indian Reservation features “Unto These Hills” outdoor drama in the summer, the Oconaluftee Indian Village, and the Cherokee Indian Museum. Cherokee is also known for their wonderful Indian Baskets and wood carvings.
  • Day trips could include Biltmore House and Gardens, Fontana Dam, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Cherohala Skyway.
  • Visit Bryson City, Dillsboro, Waynesville, Highlands, Cashiers, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and other neighboring towns for local crafts and antiques.
  • In the winter, snow skiing and snow tubing is available at the Cataloochee Ski Resort in Maggie Valley.

  • One Cottage with 6 bedrooms; 2 bedrooms with one queen, 2 bedrooms with one double,
  • 1 bedroom with one king bed, and 1 bedrooms with 2 twins
  • One Cottage with 2 bedrooms; 1 bedroom with one king bed and
  • 1 bedroom with two doubles
  • Note: Some of these rooms are not available in winter months

Rates ( includes room, dinner and breakfast each day)

  • Regular Season (April-December)
  • $83 per person per night – double occupancy
  • $141 per person per night – single occupancy
  • Capacity-Double occupancy (two guests in each room) - 58

Winter Season (January – March)

  • $58 per person per night – double occupancy
  • $93 per person per night – single occupancy
  • Capacity- Double Occupancy (two guests in each room) – 50
  • Taxes and gratuities are not included

Requirements
Minimum stay and deposit: A minimum of two nights is required for any group using the entire inn. A deposit is required to confirm the reservation. The amount will depend on the size of the group. A shorter stay may possible for groups not using the entire inn during the regular season

Capacity
In season (April- December) Full use of the inn

  • Maximum 58 participants
  • Minimum 43 participants
  • This will allow group full access of the inn without outside interruption and includes private dining for your group and use of all common areas for gatherings.
  • Ask about availability of smaller groups if you do not need private dining or large meeting space

Winter Season (January- March),

  • Groups of at least 30 are required for full use of the inn.
  • Ask about availability for smaller groups

Sorry, group rates are not available on holiday weekends or in October

Meeting Space
Groups using the entire inn may use any or all of the following for their meeting space.

  • Dining room – seating capacity 60
  • Sun room – informal setting with seating capacity of 25
  • Outside Patio- seating capacity of 60
  • Innkeepers Cottage – seating capacity of 30
  • Smaller Groups may use the Innkeeper’s Cottage for meetings with capacity of 30.

Convenience and Directions
Hemlock Inn is conveniently located in the Great Smokies, just 3.5 hours from Atlanta, just 2.5 hours from Knoxville, and 3 hours from Chattanooga. Please note: Our drive can accommodate church buses, but cannot accommodate Tour buses. See our Directions Page.
